France, you disgrace yourself again

By Nikola Maric

Every nation is expected to look after its own interests, and we should not blame it if it does. The familiar saying states that ‘God created a beard for Himself first’. It is too bad that our Serbian people more than often do not follow that advice and act in their own worst interests. Let us mention one of those cases as recent as the Second World War.

German Nazi dictator asked the government of Kingdom of Yugoslavia to stay neutral in return for being left alone, spared if you will, from the German assault. Instead, on March 27th there were massive demonstrations (though instigated by the procommunist agitators!) yelling :

‘Better grave then a slave!’

We all know how that played out for the Serbian people. We are proud people, we proudly lost our entire armies in the Battle of Kosovo (1389), one third of our population in the First World War, etc. If we continue to be so proud and honorable we will soon simply disappear from this earth.

But back to our old ally France. I remember taking a walk by the monument Serbia erected to France after the First World War. This monument still stands in Kalemegdan Park of Belgrade. I still remember the inscription near the base of the monument:

-We love France the way she loved us -

And then, not in a very distant past, as a member of NATO military forces our dear friend France bombed Serbia for 78 days continually. Why? What have we done? We did not cleanse Shiptars from our Serbian cradle of Kosovo. They cleansed us and destroyed hundreds of our churches, monasteries and our ancestral graves.

An Albanian by the name of Haradinai was held by the French and was to be delivered to Serbia stand trial for his war crimes he committed during the disintegration of former Yugoslavia. And when the day came this act was to be completed our great friend France balked. They let the criminal go home where he was given a hero welcome. Serbian victims do not count much now days.

Recently I had a (dis)pleasure to watch a Serbian RTS program featuring a man who took part in delivering the late Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic to the Hague. Even Serbian helicopter was used to hand Milosevic to this kangaroo court which only serves to punish Serbians, even if they defended their own thresholds. Croatians go home to become politicians and heroes, Albanians become prime ministers in their governments, and Serbs sit in Dutch prisons, or die before the sentence is brought by this sometimes comical court.

Why did France let the Albanian criminal go? They know well who he was and what he did. Was this once proud and just country afraid of all those Muslims in their country? They have so many Muslims in France even the police are afraid to patrol the predominantly Muslim areas of cities.

And what can France expect from Serbia and Serbian government? Any kind of quid pro quo? Dream on, Serbia and Serbs, that movie will not son play in any theaters. Sooner than later Serbia is going to pay the ultimate price of joining the European Union: she will recognize Kosovo as a new Albanian country, regardless of all kinds of bravado from our Serbian politicians and government dignitaries.
