Dear Brothers and Sisters, In the Monastery of Zica, one of the holiest sites in Serbia, a thorough renovation has been under way for the past ten years. The church dates back to the thirteenth century, but damages inflicted by wars and ravages of time have tarnished the glow of this magnificent gem. After World War II Zica became a women’s monastery and it is now the home of some forty nuns. The old Priory is being converted into a children’s home. It is necessary to speed up the renovation of the old complex and the construction of the new guest house, so that everything will be complete in time for the Monastery’s 800th anniversary starting next year. Once the work is completed Zica will regain both its original appearance and its old significance as a spiritual and cultural center of Serbdom. By helping the reconstruction of Zica we are helping the overall moral and spiritual recovery of Serbia after six decades of war and communism. But there is one particular donation that we would like to make on behalf of all our members, friends and supporters, by sponsoring the magnificent new chandeliers for the main Church building. This is the appeal we have received from Zica, and we present it to you in the hope that you can help in this truly worthy endeavor. Dear Brothers and Sisters: Please contribute to the rebuilding of the Nemanjic holy cradle, and make possible something that our impoverished bretheren in Serbia can hardly accomplish by themselves. This is an effort that will benefit all of us, as it will prove that the spirit of st. Sava is alive and well within our community here in America. Hoping that you will respond to this appeal, we extend our greetings and best wishes to you, your families and your communities.
