Statement by the Bishopric of Rashka and Prizren
Issued in Washington D.C. on Monday, February 22, 2000
BISHOP ARTEMIJE'S VISIT TO CHICAGO
A delegation of the Serbian Orthodox Church, led by Bishop Artemije and Rev. Sava Janjic, has started its tour of the United States with a three-day visit to the Serbian community in Chicago on February 17-20. Serbian National Defense Council of America and its President, Mr. Slavko Panovic, have organized the presentation of a brochure published by this Bishopric, "Kosovo Crucified," which gives a detailed account of the destruction of Christian churches and monastries in the southern Serbian province.
At a magnificent gathering in South Chicago on February 20, which was also organized by the Serbian National Defense - the oldest and the most highly respected Serbian organization in the Diaspora - Bishop Artemije gave an inspired speech on the suffering of the Serbian people in Kosovo and on the catastrophic consequences of their betrayal by the Milosevic regime. A documentary, "Kosovo Crucified," was shown after the speech.
After visiting Chicago the Serbian Orthodox Church delegation has left for New York and Washington where it was to meet ranking U.N. representatives and U.S. Administration officials.
